The Kraken was commissioned by Jason Casanova for the 2018 Georgia Youth Brass Ensemble Workshop at Atlanta Music High School in Atlanta, GA. The Georgia Youth Brass Ensemble is made up of high school and undergraduate brass students a directed by Jason Casanova.
The Kraken is a legendary sea monster which may have originated from giant squid sightings. Giant squids can grow between 40 to 50 feet. Giant squids were not a threat to ships, but their size could be frightening to anyone aboard a ship of not much bigger size than the squid.
